How to control birds – a basic guide
Roosting birds can create a real mess in a factory, shed or just around a domestic dwelling with droppings, feathers and nesting materials. These can be the cause of various diseases including: E. coli., Histoplasmosis, Candidiasis and Salmonellosis "food poisoning".
Pest birds are also carriers of mites and fleas which can invade homes when nests are left and will cause discomfort and potentially serious health issues in humans.
Another problem that can appear with bird droppings is a slip hazard. Guano on a floor or walkway can create a very slippery and unsafe surface.
Lastly, bird droppings can ruin the appearance as well as functionality of outdoor furniture, swimming pool fences, balconies, gutters and solar panelling.
In order to control pest birds, firstly – know exactly which bird you are dealing with – control methods will vary significantly with species. From small to large – sparrows, swallows, Indian mynas, feral pigeons, seagulls and ibis can all become pests if they appear in the wrong place or in great numbers.
It is important to note that most of the birds on this list are protected species – except Indian mynas, feral pigeons and sparrows which are all introduced species.
There are poisons on the market for bird control – but these can only be purchased and used by licensed professionals.
Feral pigeons and Mynas can be trapped and disposed of in a humane fashion. Our Foldable Mesh Pigeon Trap features a collapsible design that allows for easy storage and transportation. The trap is made of welded mesh and metal galvanized base
